The Six Essential Elements of Preparedness
I've been at this earnest in since the early 1980's. One of the lessons I have learned along the way is not to get too wrapped up in what might happen. Focus your energy instead on getting prepared for whatever crisis we might encounter.
When the National Geographic channel approached me more than a decade ago about being on "Doomsday Preppers", the casting director asked what kind of event I was prepping for. I said, "Nothing in particular and everything in general".
The reality is that none of us are prophets, nor do we have a crystal ball. Those who tell you that they know what is going to happen, are just guessing or are false prophets. Don't worry about why, just do it. Keep in mind that skills are just as important as stuff, if not more so. Yes, you need plenty of supplies and gear. But having items that you have not become proficient at making use of can prove problematic if and when a crisis does occur.
Cover all the bases. We tend to focus on one or two things and are vulnerable in other areas. I have attached a graphic that I developed 15 years or so ago. The six sided star points out the multiple elements in being truly prepared. If you are not prepared in all of the areas, you are not fully prepared. Notice that skills are at the center of everything.
